Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources

The Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources is saddled with the responsibility of policy formulation and implementation on all aspects of agricultural production. In order to facilitate the efficient and timely discharge of its activities, the Ministry is segmented into eight directorates, three services and five professional departments and has four specialized parastatals.
They are thus:
SERVICE DEPARTMENTS
i. Planning, Research & Statistics (P.R.S.)
ii. Administration & Supply
iii. Finance
PROFESSIONAL DEPARTMENTS
i. Agricultural services
ii. Engineering services
iii. Fishery services
iv. Veterinary services
v. Forestry services

SPECIALIZED PARASTATALS
i. Kogi A.D.P
ii. Ayangba World Bank Assisted Forestry Project
iii. Agro-Allied Company Ltd.
iv. Agric Land Development Board

The fact remains that Kogi Sate lies in the North Central geo-political Zone, between longitude 50 30 N to 80 42 N. It shares boundaries in the Northern part with Niger, Nassarawa States and F.C.T., in the West and East with Kwara and Benue States while at the south, it is bounded by Ekiti, Ondo, Edo, Anambara and Enugu States. She has a total population of about 3.3 million people (2007 census), 70% of whom live in the rural areas and are predominantly farmers. Arable land in the State is about two million hectares, with a population density on the arable land being 0.27/ha.
Following aforementioned, it is imperative we first of all note that the activities of the three service departments cut across all the departments and the parastatals of the Ministry.
