Kogi State Agricultural Development Projects.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Kogi State Agricultural Development Project was established in 1991 under Edit No. 12 following the creation of states and the bifurcation of the parent ADPs of Kwara and Benue States. It is the major implementing organ of the State’s Agricultural Development Programmes.
Kogi Agricultural Development Project, like all the other ADPs in the country, performs the following broad-based functions:
• Provision of extension services to the farming populace to enhance increased income from higher agricultural productivity.
• Makes agricultural inputs available to farmers at reasonable prices.
• Provision of rural infrastructures such as rural feeder roads, processing structures portable water, etc
• Linking farmers to agricultural credit sources
Agricultural Development Project Executive committee (ADPEC) is the apex body responsible for policy decisions on ADP and is headed by the governor of the state.
Project Management Unit is the policy execution body which is responsible for the day-to-day management of its programmes. It is headed by the Managing Director.
In order to discharge its functions effectively, the ADP operates through six (6) specialized sub-programmes. The subprogrammes are:
• Agricultural Services Subprogramme
• Planning Monitoring and Evaluation
• Rural Institutional Development
• Engineering Services
• Finance Subprogramme
• Administration Subprogramme
EXTERNALLY FUNDED PROGRAMMES OF THE ADP
Presently the ADP is implementing the following externally funded programmes:
1) Root and Tuber Expansion Programme (RTEP)
2) National Programme for Food Security (NPFS).
3) National Fadama Development Project (NFDP).
The Fishery project is also being implemented by the ADP.
