                                     ACHIEVEMENTS

1) ROOT AND TUBER EXPANSION PROGRAMME (RTEP)
RTEP’s goal is to facilitate increased production of cassava, yam, potatoes and cocoyam as well as processing and marketing of their products.
Kogi State is rated as the best in the in the implementation of the Root and Tubers Expansion Programme producing over 2.84 million metric tons annually.
Major achievement recorded under the programme includes:
• Establishment of over 100 Hectares of cassava, 15 hectares each of yam, sweet potato and cocoyam multiplication farms to promote availability of improved planting materials
• Supply of improved cassava cuttings to 21 LGAs of the State for multiplication and distribution to farmers within the Local Government Area.
• A total of 11nos modern cassava processing centres have being established
• 6nos hydraulic jack provided for processing centres
• A total of 25nos additional processing centres are being processed following the 2nd Tri-term implementation.
• A total of 3nos exhibitions/workshop have been organized to bring processors, end users and equipment fabricators together to accelerate improved processing and marketing of cassava produce.

2) NATIONAL PROGRAMME FOR FOOD SECURITY (NPFS).
In this programme, approved funds from FAO/FGN are usually disbursed to the beneficiaries’ accounts through the apex executives on modular basis in form of loan. Beneficiaries are expected to pay back the loan which is recycled to other members on revolving basis.
Achievements recorded under the NPFS include:
• Formation of over 1,200 viable cooperative groups with certificate and bank Accounts.
• Renovation and equipping of 6nos Primary Health Centres at the following sites:
-Geregu -Ajaokuta LGA
-Ologba -Dekina LGA
-Ofante Ogugu -Olamaboro LGA
-Ayetoro Gbede -Ijumu LGA
-Osara -Adavi LGA
-Lokoja -Lokoja LGA
• Conduct of 20nos training in the area of nutrition and health, HIV/AIDS prevention campaign and complementary food production.
• 27ha modules of dry season farming were given out to beneficiary groups.
• 294ha modules for rain fed crops were established.
• 25ha modules of irrigated crops were also established.
• 3no Paravet modules were implemented.
• 6no community nursery were established
• 27nos Farmers Field Schools were established.
• 500 no Cooperative groups were trained.
• 12no Cooperative groups were linked to markets
• 9no School gardens were established.
• 9no Home gardens were also established at the sites

3 NATIONAL FADAMA DEVELOPMENT PROJECT (NFDP).
The project is expected to enhance agricultural production, productivity and value addition for smallholders and rural entrepreneurs in the Fadama areas on a sustainable basis.


SUMMARY OF NOTEABLE ACHIEVEMENTS FOR FADAMA DEVELOPMENT PROJECT

• Drilling of 37 boreholes across Fadama communities in Kogi State.
• 68 community wells with hand pumps have been dugged.
• 7nos shallow wells for irrigation were so far provided.
• 30.70Km of Fadama access roads were opened up for Fadama farmers.
• 125Km of stock routes for movement of cattle were constructed.
• 7nos stock water points/watering points were provided for use by the pastoralists.
• 6nos Cooling/collection shed constructed.
• 3nos Veterinary clinic constructed.
• 50ha Grazing reserve gazetted.
• 6000k of assorted improved seeds were distributed toFadama farmers across the 10LGAs.
• 25nos water pumps were distributed for small scale irrigation
• 24nos sprayers were distributed to Fadama Community Associations(FCAs).
• 8700bags of assorted fertilizers were distributed to Fadama farmers.
• 2nos tractors with complete implements were distributed to the Federated Fadama
• Community Associations (FCAs).
• 2nos maize shellers and 1no rice milling and destoing machine have been provided to the Federated Fadama Community Associations across the state.
• 665nos Fadama Users’ Groups and 39nos Fadama Community Associations have been formed and trained to be able to implement the Fadama project using Community Driven Development (CDD) approach.
